I managed to get the alert to appear but i don't think i was doing it right because it didn't count it as complete. I managed to get the alert to appear using a xxxxxxxxx because none of the other events seem to want to work for me.

Since the accepted answers are hardcoded you should try to make your XSS as simple as possible. So for example, don't make alert("1"wink, just alert(1). If it still doesn't work for you then try PMing me with what you're attempting.
